The Prime Minister announced his new cabinet today (Wed), which doesn’t have a lot of prairie connections, but there are a few. Winnipeg MP Jim Carr has been asked by the Prime Minister to serve as a special representative for the Prairies , which a Liberal news release says will ensure the people of Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba have a strong voice in Ottawa. Carr served as Minister of International Trade and as Natural Resources Minister in the last Parliament, but he stepped down for health reasons.
The only Saskatchewan connection is the Minister of the Environment Jonathan Wilkinson, who is the MP for North Vancouver, but he was raised in Saskatoon. He was previously the Fisheries Minister.
Quebec MP Marie-Claude Bibeau will remain as Agriculture Minister and former astronaut Marc Garneau continues as Transport Minister.
