Saskatoon Pair Claim Latest Sask Sport Monthly Salutes

A pair of Saskatoon athletes are the latest Sask Sport athlete-of-the-month recipients.

Cross-country runner Courtney Hufsmith is the honouree for October while the November top athlete is judoka Euan Litzenberger. Hufsmith was second in the Canada West Conference female cross-country championship run while Litzenberger won medals in each of three seperate judo meets. October Athlete of the Month

 

A silver-medal finish at the Canada West Cross Country Championships led Saskatoon’s Courtney Hufsmith to be named Sask Sport Inc.’s October Athlete of the Month.

 

Hufsmith, a fourth-year athlete for the University of Saskatchewan Huskies, finished the 10-kilometre race in a time of 30:35 to capture second place in the conference. Her time helped the Huskies to a team bronze medal, the best team finish since 2012. She was also named a Canada West First Team All-Star and qualified for the U SPORTS National Cross Country Championship in November, where she finished 15th in the country.

 

In October, Hufsmith was also named Huskie Athletics Athlete of the Week and won the Saskatchewan Athletics Senior Female Athlete of the Year award at the annual Bob Adams Awards banquet.

 

Hufsmith was nominated by Saskatchewan Athletics.

 

 

November Athlete of the Month

 

After winning three medals in three straight weekends, Saskatoon judo athlete Euan Litzenberger has been named Sask Sport Inc.’s November Athlete of the Month.

 

Litzenberger’s November medal count in the 50-kilogram class began with a bronze-medal finish at the 16-country Quebec Open in Montreal. He added a silver medal a week later at the 13-country Ontario Open. The 15-year-old returned to Saskatchewan to capture a silver medal in the Watrous Provincial Judo Tournament.

 

Litzenberger was nominated by Judo Saskatchewan.
