Rush Sign Quartet of Recent Draft Picks

The Saskatchewan Rush signed four of their recent 2020 National Lacrosse League Draft picks to two-year contracts each on Tuesday.

They are forwards Bobby Kidd, Clark Walter and Erik Maas…selected 26th, 43rd and 79th, respectively…plus forward-slash-transition performer Kelson Borisenko, taken 64th overall. There is no word yet as to when the 2020-21 N-L-L season will start. Following is the news release from the Rush…

RUSH SIGN FOUR 2020 DRAFT PICKS

Saskatoon, SK – The Saskatchewan Rush have signed 2020 NLL Draft picks Bobby Kidd, Clark Walter, Kelson Borisenko, and Erik Maas to two year agreements.

Bobby Kidd, RF – 26th overall, Young Harris/Langley

“Incredible athlete. Super fast, strong, good skills. We thought he’d go much higher. An absolute stud who fits the way we play.” – Rush GM Derek Keenan

A number of draft-night surprises fell in such a path that left the Rush pleasantly surprised to see Kidd available in this spot. The current roster is jam-packed with high-end athletes and Kidd fits that description to a ‘T’. The Port Moody, B.C., product stands a powerful 6-foot-3 and 185 pounds, showed well in a brief collegiate stint (Second Team All-Great Lakes Valley Conference) and racked up 50 points with Langley. There’s work to be done but a huge amount of raw talent to work with.

Clark Walter, LF – 43rd overall, Limestone/Port Coquitlam

“He’s a physical, offensive player. We got him and felt so good about getting him in third round that we were very comfortable trading our other third-round pick.” – Rush GM Derek Keenan

Walter helped Limestone win the 2017 NCAA Div. II title and two years later was a Div. II All-American thanks to a 53-goal campaign. He’s put up noteworthy numbers at the Junior ‘A’ level as well with 74 goals and 66 assists in 41 games with the PoCo Saints. The Rush were slated to pick at No. 46, but opted to deal that pick to the Toronto Rock for a third-rounder in the 2021 draft.

Kelson Borisenko, RF/T – 64th overall, Manhattan/Manitoba

“He’s a bit of a project because he hasn’t played a lot against high-level competition, but that’s OK. He’s had a good college career and he’s athletic. We like what we’ve seen.” – Rush GM Derek Keenan

Borisenko could have played Junior ‘A’ elsewhere but opted to stay with his home-town team and play at the Junior ‘B’ level where he racked up 333 points and was the Rocky Mountain League’s leading scorer in 2016. The Winnipeg native will return for a fifth year at Manhattan College where he was a two-time MAAC All-Academic Team member.

Erik Maas, RF – 79th overall, New Westminster

“He’s a skilled guy. Our scouts spoke highly of him. Some guys surprise you. Sometimes they come to camp and knock your socks off.” – Rush GM Derek Keenan

Maas declared early for last year’s draft but went unclaimed. The Burnaby, B.C., product notched 60 points in 2019.
