Prince Albert City Council has approved having the new Aquatic and Arenas Recreation Centre all under one roof.
Mayor Greg Dionne says there were a few options, but it was decided having everything in one building means not having to go outside to get from the rinks to the aquatic centre, which after experiencing the recent storm, seems to make the most sense.
The aquatics area will include a 25-metre competitive pool, a combined leisure, splash and wave pool, a lazy river area, two water slides and a whirlpool .
The arena will include two NHL size rinks.
Dionne says the federal government is adding $24-million to the pot, the province is funding almost $20-million and the City of Prince Albert will add $16-million. The goal is to raise $50-million privately through donations, sponsorships and naming rights.
The budget hasn’t been completely finalized because the design work for the facility still needs to be done.
