Jagmeet Singh made his second visit to the province on the next-to-last day of the federal election campaign.
The NDP leader met with healthcare workers to discuss the challenges of working through this latest COVID surge. Singh said the federal government could have done more to prevent the fourth wave.
“The federal government should have released a federal vaccine passport months and months ago,” he said. “It should have to put together resources and got that done right away. Mr. Trudeau doing that would have encouraged more people to get vaccinated and we would be in a better position.”
The Liberal and Conservative leaders were both in the heavily populated regions of southern Ontario on Saturday. Justin Trudeau questioned why all Conservative candidates are not publicly releasing their COVID vaccination status.
“It’s because he (Erin O’Toole) is not worried about stepping up and protecting those people who have done the right thing. He is worried about protecting anti-vaxxers in his caucus,” he said.
Conservative leader Erin O’Toole says if a candidate is not vaccinated, they must use a daily rapid test.
“Vaccines are safe, effective and I encourage all Canadians to get vaccinated,” said O’Toole, noting that he and his wife are fully vaccinated.
