NDP questions overcapacity at Children’s Hospital

By Neil Billinger Apr 7, 2022 | 2:50 PM

The New Democrats are referring to a staff notice about current conditions at the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital in Saskatoon.

The notice contained the following points:

-all pediatric areas continue to be overcapacity

-pediatric inpatients remain at 108 per cent

-PICU (pediatric intensive care unit) at 125 per cent capacity

-staffing pressures remain high

-non-urgent direct admissions are being deferred

Official Opposition leader Ryan Meili called on Premier Scott Moe and Health Minister Paul Merriman to see the situation first-hand on a tour.

“It is unacceptable that a child needing care might not be able to get a bed in our brand new children’s hospital,” Meili said.
