A 32 year old woman has been charged with a hate/bias motivated offence following an investigation by the Saskatoon Police Service Hate Crime Unit.
Around 1:40 in the afternoon on May 2nd, a 23 year old woman reported being confronted by a stranger while at the Dr. Freda Ahenakew Library on Avenue K South. She says a woman began chasing her while using racial slurs and then left the scene. The 32 year old is facing a charge of common assault.
In an effort to increase awareness around hate-motivated crime and to improve access to reporting incidents, the Police Service has created a web page on the topic and has added hate crimes to its online reporting function. The Hate Crime Unit was created this past January.
