As was announced in the provincial budget for the next fiscal year, the government is providing a one-time top up of $12 million in operating funding for post-secondary institutions, which is a 2.2 per cent increase over last year. Advanced Education Minister Gordon Wyant says the one-time increase will help these institutions manage cost pressures, better enabling them to maintain services for students. This additional funding is separate from the four-year funding agreement the province has with post-secondary education institutions.
USask President and Vice-Chancellor Peter Stoicheff says the university appreciations the one-time inflationary increase. He considers it a recognition of the financial pressures the sector continues to face.
A couple of capital projects also included in the budget are $8.6 million for an electrical infrastructure upgrade at USask and $6 million for planning work for Saskatchewan Polytechnic’s new Saskatoon campus.
