McCallum’s Goaltending and Another Strong Third Period Lifts Blades Past Pats

By Les Lazaruk Dec 28, 2024 | 10:07 PM

The combination of Ethan McCallum’s (pictured) stellar goaltending and a third period goal-scoring flurry allowed the Saskatoon Blades to win for the first time in five weeks on the road Saturday night – a 5-2 victory over the Pats in Regina.

McCallum stopped 32 shots for his first win in five starts since joining the Bridge City Bunch from Medicine Hat in late October. The Blue and Gold supported him with three unanswered third period goals to break a 2-2 tie, giving them eight third period tallies, without allowing a goal, in two games coming out of the Christmas break. Ben Riche put the Blades ahead for a third time and for good with his 20th goal of the season, joining Brandon Lisowsky in reaching the 20-goal plateau. Lisowsky opened the scoring with his 21st of the season on a first period power play, giving Saskatoon an ice-breaking goal for the first time in six games. The Bridge City Bunch had lost their three previous games away from SaskTel Centre. Hudson Kibblewhite, Misha Volotovskii and Colten Worthington also found the mark for the Bridge City Bunch, now 19-10-4 for the season – good for first place in the East Division and Eastern Conference. Kibblewhite added two assists for the 17-year-old Vernon, B-C, product’s first career W-H-L three-point game. Riche and Worthington each added a helper for two-point nights while defenceman Grayden Siepmann recorded his second straight two-assist game. Following are the audio highlights from CJWW’s broadcast, Les Lazaruk’s Post-Game Show interviews with head coach Dan Da Silva and McCallum plus the official game summary courtesy the W-H-L…..
