One of the notable cold weather records that was broken on Wednesday was in Estevan. The mercury dropped to -37.9 beating out a record set 115 years ago in 1910. And once again, a Saskatchewan community is the cold spot in Canada this morning. Val Marie in the southwest is currently at -42.5 degrees.
All of central and southern Saskatchewan is still under an extreme cold warning this morning. Environment Canada says this prolonged extreme cold event will come to an end today. Although temperatures remain quite cold this morning, they will begin to moderate today and tomorrow, with a significant warm-up expected this weekend including plus temperatures forecast in many areas of the province.
