Red Sox Get “Spry” Pitching Effort in Denying Berries a W-C-B-L Season Wins’ Record Again

By Les Lazaruk Aug 2, 2025 | 9:23 PM

Instead of taking advantage of a second chance to win a Western Canadian Baseball League-record 45th game in a season, the Saskatoon Berries dropped a second consecutive contest for the first time in 2025 – falling 4-2 to the visiting Regina Red Sox.

Chris Spry went the distance, taking the life out of the Berries’ bats – allowing just four hits and scattering three walks – as Regina made it back-to-back wins over Saskatoon to complete the season series. Offensively, Red Sox’ shortstop Matthew Fox drove in two of Regina’s four runs with a pair of singles. But, Saturday’s game was a game dominated by the pitchers there were only nine total hits, making for a quick contest that only took two hours and 10 minutes to play in front of 1,777 fans at Cairns Field. Spry threw 120 pitches in his complete game outing, striking out five as the Oklahoma product’s personal record improved to 3-0 while the Red Sox clinched a third place finish in the East Division with their 28-26 record. Regina will play Medicine Hat in the first round of the W-C-B-L playoffs while the 44-9 Berries will face the Moose Jaw Miller-Express in the East Division semi-finals, beginning Wednesday at Cairns Field. Saskatoon still has two more chances to win a league-record 45th game, both against visiting Medicine Hat on Sunday and Monday. Sunday’s game starts at 1 o’clock and can be heard on CJWW. Following is the official box score courtesy the W-C-B-L…..
