Blades Score Two Power Play Goals 77 Seconds Apart to Snatch Pre-Season Victory Away From Raiders

For a second straight night, the older and more experienced lineup was victorious in a W-H-L pre-season game – although it was 17 seconds from not happening that way.

The Saskatoon Blades forced overtime with 17 seconds left in the third period, then scored the winning goal 60 seconds into the fourth period, out-lasting the Prince Albert Raiders 3-2 Saturday night in Warman. Tyler Parr pushed the puck over the goal line for the win with the Bridge City Bunch on a 4-on-3 man advantage in the extra frame. The power play was a carry-over from regulation time as P-A took back-to-back penalties – for puck over glass and playing the puck with a glove off a faceoff. Add Blue and Gold goaltender Taye Timmerman being on the bench for an extra attacker and the Blades had a 6-on-3 skater advantage and made good on it when Dominik Petr scored to force O-T. For Petr – a 20-year-old centre from Czechia, acquired in the off-season from Brandon – it was his one-time shot in overtime that slipped in behind Raiders’ goaltender Steele Bass for Parr to tap into the net, plus he set up Rowan Calvert for the other Saskatoon goal. On Friday, P-A won handily by a 7-1 score at home, with a lineup that had over 130 games more regular-season game of experience while on Saturday, the Bridge City Bunch lineup had over 450 more regular-season games of experience than the one the Raiders iced, including a full complement of three, 20-year-olds. All three – Petr, Parr and Calvert – scored as the Blue and Gold improved to 3-1-0 in the pre-season, while out-shooting the Prince Albert 36-29. Jonah Sivertson and Hubert Clarke tallied for the Raiders, now 1-1-2 in exhibition play. After playing P-A four times in five days to open the W-H-L pre-season schedule, the Blades are off until a Friday visit to Moose Jaw, a game that will be broadcast on CJWW, beginning with the Pre-Game Show at 6:45.
