Blades Chop Giants Down to Size With Methodical, Dominant Triumph

It was, essentially, a carry-over from Sunday in Brandon as the Saskatoon Blades rolled over the visiting Vancouver Giants 6-1 Tuesday night in front of 2,710 fans at SaskTel Centre.

The Bridge City Bunch vaulted into sole possession of first place in the East Division, one point ahead of Prince Albert – but the Raiders have played two less games. The Blue and Gold scored two goals in each period, playing a mean game of keep-away from the G-Men, in recording their third straight win and improving their record to 5-2-0. After combining for 11 points in the 6-3 victory over the Wheat Kings, the line of David Lewandowski, Dominik Petr and Hunter Laing posted another eight points Tuesday – Petr with two goals and an assist, Lewandowski with a goal and two helpers while Laing chipped in two assists. Rookies Ben Bowtell (pictured) and Dustin Willhoft each notched their first career W-H-L tallies while captain Tyler Parr scored his first goal of the season and added an assist. The Blades out-shot Vancouver 39-16, after holding a 41-26 advantage on Brandon. Saskatoon also scored two power play goals for a third straight game and the fourth time overall this season. Former Saskatoon Blazers Under-18 AAA forward Blake Chorney was the only Giant to beat Evan Gardner in the second period. Vancouver, now 1-2-0 on their six-game East Division road trip and 2-4-0 overall for the season, travel to P-A Wednesday night. The Blades are in Swift Current Friday, then come home to play another B-C Division opponent in the Kamloops Blazers on Saturday.
