Late Rally Allows Blades to Overcome 3-in-3 Stigma, as Well as Oil Kings

It wasn’t exactly an overtime win, but it was darn close!

Hayden Harsanyi (pictured) scored with 4.3 seconds left in the third period to give the Saskatoon Blades a late, come-from-behind, 4-3 victory over the visiting Edmonton Oil Kings Sunday. The dramatic ending also brought to a conclusion the first three games-in-three days weekend of game for the Bridge City Bunch in 22 months. With three-and-a-half minutes remaining, it looked like Edmonton was on their way to a fifth straight win with a 3-2 lead. But, Cooper Williams dashed into the Oil Kings end to tie the score with 3:09 remaining, setting the stage for Harsanyi’s heroics as his shot out of the left wing circle glanced off goaltender Parker Snell’s glove and in. Kazden Mathies and David Lewandowski scored the other goals for the Blue and Gold – now 9-3-0 for the season, the same record as the Oil Kings. Lewandowski added an assist for a two-point game while defenceman Jordan Martin chipped in a pair of helpers. For a group that was supposed to be fatigued playing their third game-in-three days, the Blades out-shot Edmonton 35-25 overall – 27-13 for the final two periods – in front of 4,302 fans. The result not only gave Saskatoon two wins out of the three in the busy weekend, but it was the eighth straight triumph at SaskTel Centre over the Oil Kings, dating back to January 1, 2022. The Bridge City Bunch play their next six games on the road against each of the U-S Division teams, beginning Friday night in Everett against the Silvertips. The Blue and Gold don’t play at home again until November 7 when they welcome Moose Jaw to SaskTel Centre.
