Blades Woes Move From First Period to Third Period For Second Straight Loss on U-S Road Trip

What was looking like a “Halloween Treat” after two periods Friday night turned into a bad “trick” played on the Saskatoon Blades as they fell 5-1 to the home-standing Seattle Thunderbirds.

The T-Birds scored five unanswered goals in the third frame to improve to 6-7-0 for the season. The Bridge City Bunch played with good spirit and energy in the opening 40 minutes and led 1-0 on a Tristen Doyle power play goal late in the opening frame. Ethan McCallum matched Saskatoon product Grayson Malinoski save-for-save, until the dam burst in the third. In the end, the former Saskatoon Blazers’ Under-18, Triple-A puck-stopper, made 30 saves while McCallum surrendered five goals on 13 shots in the third period, stopping 33 of 38 overall. On Wednesday, the Blades failed to hold a 1-0 lead in the third period in Spokane, losing 2-1 in overtime to the Chiefs. The Blue and Gold are now 10-6-1 overall and 1-3-1 for the U-S Division road trip as the calendar flips to November and the regular-season moves past the quarter-mark. The Blades finish the swing Saturday night in Wenatchee against the 2-7-2 Wild…the sixth game in nine days for Saskatoon.
