The Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response team has released some more details regarding the officer involved shooting in Saskatoon last Friday.
Police responded to a mental health call in Sutherland at 4:12 p.m. where a 25-year-old man was allegedly threatening to cause death or bodily harm.
The Saskatoon Police Service including negotiators and members of the Tactical Support Unit contained the home in the 15-hundred block of Rayner Avenue and attempted to interact with the man.
A warrant was obtained to allow police to enter but officers tried for over another hour to convince him to leave voluntarily. At 11:41 p.m. the person in question partially emerged and a confrontation took place at which time, a member of the Tactical Support Unit fired several rounds from their service weapon and despite being hit, the man refused to exit.
Shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday officers entered the home and in the process of taking the man into custody, several less-lethal devices were deployed. He was taken to hospital where he remains stable condition.
Police say several knives were recovered from the incident. SIRT will issue a final report within 90 days of the investigation ending.
