A man and woman have been charged by Pelican Narrows RCMP after methamphetamine, a firearm and a machete were seized at a residence as part of an aggravated assault investigation.

On December 23rd, RCMP received the report of a serious assault at a residence on Ballantyne Street in Pelican Narrows. The investigation determined that a man had locked a woman in a room at the residence and later entered with a firearm. An interaction then occurred that injured the female, but the firearm was not discharged. She was taken to a medical clinic for non-life threatening injuries.

The man was arrested at the residence.

The next day, RCMP conducted a search as part of the investigation where they seized approximately 1 kilogram of methamphetamine, ammunition, a sawed-off firearm, additional firearm parts, a machete and a sum of cash. As a result of the search, another man and two women were arrested.

26-year-old Tanner Ballantyne was hit with a variety of charges related to the aggravated assault as well as one count of possessing methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking. 45-year-old Sylvia Ballantyne was also charged with a count of possessing methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking as well as possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.

They appeared in court on Tuesday; the other man and woman were released without charge.
