Big River RCMP say on January 8th – last Thursday – at 9:50 a.m. they received a report of a robbery.
No one was injured in the incident, but investigators determined a car had been stolen at gunpoint in Debden on December 31st.
On Thursday afternoon Big River RCMP located a car matching the stolen vehicle’s description and attempted a traffic stop but the vehicle wouldn’t pull over.
Officers set up a tire deflation device after the suspect vehicle was spotted travelling on Highway #55, south of Debden and while the car’s tires deflated it kept moving and proceeded to collide with the rear of one police cruiser as well as the side of a second one before coming to a stop.
Two suspects fled on foot and were arrested. The RCMP officers weren’t injured in the collisions. Thirty-four-year-old Albert Williams from Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation is facing four charges including obstructing a peace officer and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. A woman from the First Nation was arrested in relation to a previous outstanding warrant for her arrest.
