Normally Offensive Tigers Go Defensive and Choke Off Blades Attack

The Medicine Hat Tigers went a different way in getting their payback over the Saskatoon Blades in a 4-1 victory Tuesday over the visitors.

The Bengals got retribution for a 3-2 shootout loss to the Bridge City Bunch five nights earlier at SaskTel Centre. They did so by choking off the Blue and Gold’s offence, limiting the Blades to just 16 shots on goal. Only David Lewandowski tallied for Saskatoon late in the second period, ending the shutout bid of Medicine Hat goaltender Jordan Switzer. By then, the Tigers had a 3-0 lead. The Bengals came into the game with the most goals scored in the W-H-L, averaging just under four-and-three-quarter goals per game. However, Medicine Hat played a third straight game without the league’s leading goal scorer in Bryce Pickford due to injury, then lost his defence partner Jonas Woo to injury after one period. However, Finnish imports Veti Vaisanen and Niilopekka Muhonen stepped up and led the Tigers shutting down of the Bridge City Bunch offence. The Blue and Gold finish up three straight road games in the province of Alberta Wednesday night when they visit the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
