Blades Come Up Empty in Alberta After Hurricanes Mid-Game Revival

A good start turned into a bad finish for the Saskatoon Blades Wednesday night in Lethbridge.

The Bridge City Bunch jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half of the game, only to surrender five unanswered goals in the second half as the Hurricanes skated away with a 5-2 victory. David Lewandowski opened the scoring and assisted on Rowan Calvert’s tally, but two Canes’ goals 34 seconds apart just past the mid-point of the second period turned the game in Lethbridge’s favour. The setback was part of a tough night altogether for the Blue and Gold. The third straight loss on a swing through Alberta left the Blades with a 24-18-4 record for 52 points while Brandon and Calgary both won Wednesday – the Wheat Kings doubling Wenatchee 6-3 on their U-S road trip while the Hitmen upended Edmonton 5-2 giving Calgary 57 points and the Wheaties 55. Things don’t get easier for Saskatoon as they open a home-and-home series on Saturday in Prince Albert against the Eastern Conference-leading Raiders – also the top ranked team in the latest C-H-L Top 10.
