Consistently Inconsistent Blades Beaten by Canes at Home

By Les Lazaruk Feb 7, 2026 | 11:42 PM

The Saskatoon Blades looked to be in good shape going into third period Saturday night, tied at 1-1 and holding a 20-10 advantage on the shot clock. But, it was the Lethbridge Hurricanes that hushed the crowd of 4,397 at SaskTel Centre with three goals, then cruised to a 4-2 triumph.

The loss kept the Bridge City Bunch from jumping over Brandon into second place in the W-H-L’s East Division and fifth place in the Eastern Conference as the Wheat Kings lost 5-2 in Prince Albert Saturday. The 26-22-4 Blue and Gold remain a point back of the Wheaties, who have one game in hand. The Canes, meanwhile, ended a 12-game road losing streak and improved to 16-35-1 for the season – still nine points back of Red Deer for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Conference. Kazden Mathies and Tyler Parr tallied for the Blades, who ended up out-shooting Lethbridge 35-20. Hurricanes’ goaltender Koen Cleaver was the first star for the second time in 10 days against Saskatoon. After rallying for a 4-3 overtime victory Friday in Regina, the Bridge City Bunch failed to put together a second consecutive win – and haven’t done so in two weeks, losing six of their last eight games and being out-scored 31-16. The Blue and Gold continue to have better success on the road than at home with records of 14-10-3 away from SaskTel Centre, compared to 12-12-1 in the friendly confines. The Blades’ next action is Wednesday at home against Regina. Following are the audio highlights from CJWW’s broadcast, Post-Game Show interviews with head coach Dan Da Silva and Parr plus the official game summary courtesy the W-H-L website…..
