Calvert Turns Moose Jaw’s Teddy Bear Toss Celebration Into His Special Night For Blades

By Les Lazaruk Dec 13, 2025 | 10:22 PM

It was storybook stuff Saturday in Moose Jaw as Rowan Calvert, quite likely playing his final W-H-L game in his hometown, recorded his first career hat trick to pace the Saskatoon Blades to a 3-2 victory over the Warriors.

It was the third straight win for the Bridge City Bunch, now 17-13-2 for the season, and stretched Moose Jaw’s winless streak to six games, leaving them at 12-15-4 for the campaign. It was a come-from-behind effort for the Blue and Gold as Saskatoon product Kash Andresen touched off the Warriors’ Teddy Bear Toss with a goal just 30 seconds into the game. Calvert tied the score on a second period power play. The 20-year-old Moose Jaw product had just stepped out of the penalty box midway through the third period when Warriors’ defenceman Aiden Ziprick gave the Warriors the lead again. But, Calvert more than atoned for the penalty by scoring the tying and go-ahead goals just 21 seconds apart – the winning tally coming with 2:45 remaining in the third period, giving him a Blades-leading 19 goals for the season. A significant sidebar story in the win for Saskatoon was Ryley Budd in goal. After the 17-year-old rookie allowed Andresen’s goal on the first shot against him, he stopped the next 28 of 29, including a second period penalty shot attempt by Moose Jaw’s Steven Steranka. He also preserved the win by stopping Colt Carter’s high percentage shot with less than 10 seconds left. The road team has won all five games in the season series between the Bridge City Bunch and Warriors. The Blue and Gold wrap up a three games-in-three days weekend on Sunday when they host the arch-rival Prince Albert Raiders, also completing a three-in-three, at SaskTel Centre at 4 o’clock. CJWW’s broadcast starts at 3:45. Following are the audio highlights from CJWW’s broadcast, Les Lazaruk’s Post-Game Show interviews with head coach Dan Da Silva, Calvert and Budd plus the official game summary courtesy the W-H-L website…..
