Environment Canada reports that a half dozen locations set new daily minimum temperature records in Saskatchewan on Saturday.
The Lucky Lake area set a new record of -34.8 degrees beating out the record of 30.5 degrees set in 2009. The longest standing record that was broken was in Nipawin when the daily minimum record reached -41.8 degrees. The old record was set in 1954.
Other communities with new records include Key Lake, Last Mountain Lake Sanctuary area, Weyburn and Yorkton. Saskatchewan, the land of extremes after less than two weeks earlier Environment Canada reported that 16 locations set or tied daily maximum temperature records January 14th with daytime highs hitting double digits on the plus side in many locations.
