A fire investigator has determined arson was the cause of a fire at a vacant property on the 400 block of Avenue S South Sunday morning. There was also damage to a neighbouring vacant property. The total estimate is $10 thousand.

Just before 11 o’clock, the Saskatoon Fire Department received a 911 call reporting heavy black smoke coming from the back of the house.

Fire crews shut off the gas supply and then found a small fire which was quickly put out.

The Saskatoon Fire Department was called to the 12 hundred block of 11th Street East just after seven o’clock Sunday night about a house fire. Everyone inside had evacuated before fire crews arrived. A member of the Saskatoon Police Department was in the area at the time and tried to contain the fire with a fire extinguisher. Fire fighters put out the small blaze that was burning on the exterior. There were no injuries. An investigator is trying to determine the cause.
