Prime Minister Pledges $300 Million to Fight COVID-19 Globally

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced more investments towards fighting COVID-19 Saturday.

Speaking virtually as part of the Global Goal: Unite for Our Future Summit, Trudeau pledged $120 million towards the World Health Organization’s global collaboration to accelerate the development, production and access to new COVID-19 diagnostics, therapeutics and vaccines known as the (ACT) Accelerator. Trudeau says Canada is also committed to working with countries around the world, to pool procurement efforts, to make sure all countries have access to the vaccine.

Trudeau stressed the need to take care of the most vulnerable and address the challenges they are facing right now, pledging another $180 million that will address the immediate humanitarian and development impacts of the COVID-19 crisis.

The Global Citizen Summit is an online campaign that features a concert and summit, aiming to call on citizens to tackle current global injustices.
The campaign looks to raise billions of dollars in support across the world.
