If you noticed Saturday morning a large police presence along 4th Avenue South by the Zion Luthern Church and 19th Street at the base of the Broadway Bridge, it was to enable police to apprehend a man who was believed to have entered the building which houses the Saskatoon Chamber of Commerce and The Link Office Hub.
A 30 year old man has been charged with two counts of break and enter after reportedly barricading himself in a building in the 300 block of 4th Avenue South. Police say more charges are pending, upon the conclusion of the investigation. The Tactical Support Unit, Crisis Negotiators and Patrol were able to take the man into custody shortly before 1:00 p.m. Saturday. He was transported to hospital for assessment.
Around 6:30 a.m on Saturday a man was spotted on the roof of the building and is believed to have entered through a roof grate or duct. Approximately a dozen police vehicles, along with Saskatoon fire, ambulance and the mobile command unit responded. Police surrounded the area and the Saskatoon Fire Department assisted in getting a police response team onto the roof. Traffic restrictions were in place for just over six hours before being lifted in early afternoon.
