After two appetizers, the Saskatoon Blades dig into the meat of the W-H-L’s East Division “Dubble” Wednesday as they take on the Winnipeg ICE.
The Bridge City Bunch are 2-0-0 after beating Swift Current and Regina over the weekend. However, the Blue and Gold haven’t had recent success against 1-1-0 Winnipeg as they have had against the Broncos and Pats. Saskatoon now owns winning streaks of seven games over Speedy Creek and four games over the Queen City Kids. The ICE froze out the Blades from the win column in four of five games last season…and were looking to make it five out of six when a March 13 game at the U of Manitoba’s Wayne Fleming Arena was a casualty of the COVID-19 “pause.”
Winnipeg possesses, arguably, the best player in the “Dubble” in 19-year-old forward Peyton Krebs…a key member of Team Canada at the recent World Juniors and a 2019 first round N-HL draft pick of the Vegas Golden Knights. But, the Bridge City Bunch have looked to be a deeper club in the first two games, thanks to the acquisitions of Wyatt McLeod on defence from Edmonton and Blake Stevenson from Tri-Cities. Plus, in the first two games, the Blades have gotten their 10 goals scored from seven different forwards. Newcomer Stevenson has two of the goals amongst a team-leading four points.
