There are far more people in hospital with COVID-19 than has been reported. The Minister of Health issued a statement today (Thursday) indicating that he was informed by the Saskatchewan Health Authority of a discrepancy in hospitalization numbers including ICU counts.
The SHA says discrepancies in previous reports were a result of how patients who receive intensive care in a surge bed outside of an ICU were being recorded.
Wednesday in the daily COVID-19 update from the province it was reported there were 166 people in hospital and 23 of those people in ICU.
In fact, there are 193 people in hospital as of Thursday’s daily COVID-19 update and 34 people are being treated in an Intensive Care Unit. Seventy-eight of the 159 people receiving inpatient care are in Regina while 49 are in Saskatoon. Twenty-three of the 34 ICU patients are also in Regina while there are 10 in ICU in Saskatoon.
