An initial investigation by the R-C-M-P’s Major Crime Unit South and Meadow Lake R-C-M-P has determined that a firearms-related incident from Monday afternoon at Lions Park campground in Meadow Lake is considered a homicide-suicide.

Around 2:45 p.m. Monday, following multiple reports of a firearm discharged in the campground, police found a 34-year-old woman from Flying Dust First Nation deceased outside a camper trailer in the campground area and a 34-year-old man from Thunderchild First Nation was found dead by apparent suicide inside the same camper trailer.

Meadow Lake R-C-M-P received a call shortly before the firearm was discharged, at 2:10 p.m., asking for a wellness check on the woman, from a concerned individual. Officers were making inquiries when the reports came in of a gun being fired.  A woman, known to both the man and woman who died, also suffered minor injuries in the incident and was treated and released from hospital.  Police are not seeking additional suspects.
