Over 528,000 federal and provincial government employees received a pay raise during the Covid-19 pandemic. The Canadian Taxpayers Federation released a report on Monday showing the staggering number of increases in the last two years. It states that no provincial or federal government employees received reductions in pay during that timeframe.
The CTF states Members of Parliament have received two pay raises during the pandemic, ranging from an extra $6,900 for backbench MPs to an additional $13,800 for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Over 11,900 Government of Saskatchewan Employees were included in the raises. Franco Terrazzano, Federal Director with the Canadian Taxpayers Federation says, “We’ve seen a tale of two pandemics: one full of private sector pain and the other full of financial gain for bureaucrats and politicians.” MP’s are set to give themselves a third pandemic pay raise on April 1, 2022.
