Federal interest-free loans for Saskatchewan businesses to create jobs

By Carol Thomson Jun 29, 2022 | 11:45 AM

BikTrix Enterprises, a national ebike company based in Saskatoon is one of 11 businesses receiving funding from the federal government through PrairiesCan to help grow and create good paying jobs in this province. BikTrix will receive an interest-free loan of $3.5-million to commercialize new hardware and software, and to hire more staff.

CEO and Founder, Roshan Thomas, says BikTrix has the same challenges that many are having, trying to find people with the proper skills. This funding means being able to provide the competitive pay to entice people to move to Saskatchewan, while also grooming local employees.

The federal government announced nearly $26-million in interest-free loans for the 11 businesses. PrairiesCan Minister, Daniel Vandal, says it is estimated to create over 500 jobs.

The CEO and Founder of Coconut Software Corporation, Katherine Renier, says for awhile the technology industry in Saskatchewan was a secret gem, but more companies are beginning to realize the talent that is available, so they are having to compete with the big tech companies when hiring staff, and their federal funding of $5-million, will help with that. Coconut Software Corporation is a company with appointment scheduling software for financial institutions, based out of Saskatoon.
