The Saskatchewan RCMP Roving Traffic Unit pulled over a pickup truck with an obstructed license plate and netted a sizeable haul of illicit drugs.
The vehicle was searched on July 6th around 1p.m. on the Trans-Canada west of Maple Creek which is when officers say they found 954 grams of methamphetamine and 337 grams of cocaine in addition to a small amount of cannabis and a sum of cash.
Two Calgary residents were arrested. Both 33-year-old Vasco Kalala and 25-year-old Emmany Kayembe are charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
RCMP say their investigation determined the drugs were destined for the Regina area.
Combined Traffic Services Staff Sergeant Chad McLeod says, ” This is a significant drug seizure. Meth is often sold on the street at the “point” level, which is 0.1 grams. We’ve prevented more than 9,500 points, plus a significant amount of cocaine, from entering Regina – and potentially making its way to smaller communities.”
