Rattlers Carr Named a Finalist For C-E-B-L Player-of-the-Year Award

It’s Tony Carr of the Saskatchewan Rattlers against Khalil Ahmad of the Niagara River Lions for Player-of-the-Year in the Canadian Elite Basketball League.

The loop announced the finalists for five of eight awards today. Carr led the C-E-B-L with 6.2 assists per game and was sixth in points per game with 19.8 while the forward helped propel the Snakes into the quarter-finals on Sunday in Scarborough. Besides the five award finalists, the Coach and Official of the Year, as well as the C-E-B-L Clutch Player of the Year award will also be announced on August 10 as part of the league’s Final Four weekend. Canadian Elite Basketball League Announces 2022 CEBL Award Nominees
The Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Friday the individual award nominees for its annual CEBL Awards being held August 10 at the Casino Du Lac-Leamy in Gatineau, QC. The CEBL Awards is the first official event of the 2022 Championship Weekend, which is being held in Ottawa, Ont. between August 10-14.

Award nominees were revealed for six player categories. All CEBL award winners will receive a customized ring from Jostens, the official Supplier of Awards and Rings to the CEBL, a $500 Foot Locker shopping spree, and free flights for two for one full year courtesy of Flair Airlines.

The award nominees include:

U SPORTS Player of the Year: David Muenkat (Scarborough), Thomas Kennedy (Fraser Valley)
Sixth Man of the Year: Elijah Mitrou-Long (Niagara), Koby McEwan (Hamilton)
Defensive Player of the Year: Caleb Agada (Hamilton), EJ Onu (Niagara)
Canadian Player of the Year: Caleb Agada (Hamilton), Isiaha Mike (Scarborough)
Player of the Year: Khalil Ahmad (Niagara), Tony Carr (Saskatchewan)

The 2022 Coach of the Year and Fox40 Official of the Year honourees will also be announced at the CEBL Awards.

With the Elam Ending returning to the CEBL for a third season, does the player who has made the most impact during Elam Ending will be honoured with the CEBL Clutch Player of the Year award at the event.

Award winners are determined by votes cast by the league’s head coaches, general managers, assistant coaches, select league broadcasters, and internal media personnel. Team representatives cannot vote for a player nor the head coach from their own team.

The 2022 CEBL Playoffs started Thursday night with play-in games at Saskatchewan and Fraser Valley. The Saskatchewan Rattlers dethroned the two-time defending league champion Edmonton Stingers, 94-91, and the Guelph Nighthawks upset the Bandits of Fraser Valley, 90-85.

Quarterfinal playoff action this weekend pits the Nighthawks at home to meet Niagara at 7 p.m. Saturday, while the Rattlers travel to Scarborough to take on the Shooting Stars at 3 p.m. Sunday. Both games will be broadcast nationally on CBC, with Saturday’s game being tape delayed to Sunday at 12 noon eastern time.
