Chadwick is Third Blade to Earn Weekly W-H-L Salute

For the third time this season, a member of the Saskatoon Blades has been awarded a W-H-L weekly honour.

This time it’s Ethan Chadwick (pictured) as Goaltender-of-the-Week. The Saskatoon product stopped 60 of 63 shots as the Bridge City Bunch won in Lethbridge and Edmonton. Chadwick joins crease partner Austin Elliott as winners of the goaltending salute while forward Conner Roulette has been a Player-of-the-Week. BLADES NETMINDER CHADWICK NAMED WHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK

 

The Western Hockey League announced today that Saskatoon Blades goaltender Ethan Chadwick has been named WHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending October 23, 2022.

Chadwick recorded a 2-0-0-0 record for his hometown Blades this past week, along with a 1.50 goals-against average and .952 save percentage, helping Saskatoon win all three of its games on an Alberta road swing.

The 18-year-old earned First Star honours by turning aside 29 shots Wednesday, October 19, as the Blades upended the Lethbridge Hurricanes 3-2.

He then stopped 31 of 32 shots Sunday, October 23 as Saskatoon dispatched the Edmonton Oil Kings 5-1.

Through six appearances this season, Chadwick has registered a 5-1-0-0 record; his 1.84 goals-against average is ranked fourth among WHL goaltenders.

The 6-foot-0, 177-pound puck-stopper was originally selected by Saskatoon in the third round of the 2019 WHL Draft. In 19 career WHL regular season and playoff games with the Blades, Chadwick owns an 11-4-0-0 record, a 2.94 goals-against average and .900 save percentage.

Chadwick becomes the second Blades goaltender to earn WHL Goaltender of the Week honours this season, after running mate Austin Elliott captured the inaugural award for the 2022-23 Regular Season.

Ethan Chadwick and the Saskatoon Blades are next in action Friday, October 28 when they visit the Medicine Hat Tigers (7:00 p.m. MT, Co-op Place).

GIANTS DEFENCEMAN LESLIE NAMED WHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Calgary, Alta. – The Western Hockey League announced today that Vancouver Giants defenceman Mazden Leslie has been named WHL Player of the Week for the week ending October 23, 2022.

Leslie, who is eligible for the 2023 NHL Draft, collected six points (1G-5A) over four games with the Giants this past week, helping the team to a pair of victories versus B.C. Division rivals from Victoria and Kamloops.

The 17-year-old, who hails from Lloydminster, Alta., started his week with a goal and an assist Wednesday, October 19 as Vancouver dropped a one-goal decision to the top-ranked Winnipeg ICE.

Leslie was named the game’s Second Star.

After a setback Friday versus the Prince George Cougars, Leslie rebounded with a three-assist performance Saturday, October 22 at Victoria, helping the Giants rally to a 6-5 overtime victory over the Royals.

The 6-foot-1, 182-pound rearguard capped off his week Sunday, October 23 by registering an assist as Vancouver doubled up the Kamloops Blazers 6-3.

Leslie begins the week in a third-place tie among WHL defencemen with 11 points (2G-9A) from his 11 appearances with the Giants this season.

Originally selected by Vancouver with the 10th-overall pick in the 2020 WHL Draft, Leslie has amassed 38 points (14G-24A) over 99 regular season and playoff games.

Leslie and the Vancouver Giants are next in action Thursday, October 27 when they begin a Central Division road swing against the Edmonton Oil Kings (7:00 p.m. MT, Rogers Place).
