On Monday, it was former star men’s volleyball player Darcey Busse and on Tuesday it was former women’s basketball head coach and Athletic Director Pat Jackson being named to the Canada West Hall-of-Fame.
Jackson was a ground-breaker. While head coach of the U of S women’s basketball team in 1973, Jackson was also named the Huskies’ Athletic Director…the only woman at the time to hold such a lofty position at a major North American post-secondary institution. A University of Alberta grad, Jackson piloted the Saskatchewan Huskiettes from 1964 to 1985. During that time, beginning in 1968 and for four years after that, Jackson was head coach of Canada’s senior women’s national basketball squad. Former coach and athletic director honoured by Canada West
The longtime coach and administrator was honoured Tuesday by Canada West, as she entered the conference’s Hall of Fame.
A graduate of the University of Alberta, Jackson was coach of the Saskatchewan Huskiettes basketball team from 1964 to 1985. During her time patrolling the sidelines she was also named the University of Saskatchewan’s athletic director in 1973, becoming the only women at a major north American institution to hold the position at the time.
Internationally Jackson spent four years coaching the Canadian senior women’s national team starting in 1968.
