Spring weight restrictions on roads now in effect

Spring weight restrictions are in effect as of Friday.

The Ministry of Highways says the restrictions are used by the province and the rural municipalities to offset potential damage during spring thaw.  Minister responsible Jeremy Cockrill says they reduce maintenance costs and enhance safety.

Usually, road restrictions begin in March after the winter weights cease on March 15th.  However, we have had a colder than normal March, so the restrictions were delayed.

The road bans reduce allowable weights on RM roads and secondary weight on provincial highways by 10 to 15 per cent and usually last about six weeks.
