Rush Sign Trio of 2023 N-L-L Draft Picks to Two-Year Contracts Each

The Saskatchewan Rush signed three of their picks from the 2023 N-L-L Draft Friday, ahead of the November 3 start of training camp.

Goaltender Thomas Kiazyk was taken in the second round, as was forward Jake Bowen, while defender Samuel Marshall was chosen in the fifth round. All three inked two-year contracts with Saskatchewan. Following are the news releases from the Rush…..

SASKATOON – The Saskatchewan Rush have signed their third pick in the 2023 Entry Draft.

 

On Thursday, Derek Keenan locked up left-handed forward Jake Bowen to a two-year contract.

 

Bowen, who took the Edmonton Miners to a Minto Cup final in 2022, had 27 points in 16 games with the Langley Senior A Thunder this summer in the WLA.

 

At the Junior A level, Bowen posted an astonishing 120 points in his final season in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League.

 

Bowen was a second round pick of Saskatchewan, selected 25th overall at the draft in September.

 

Jake’s father, Jamey, played and coached for the Edmonton Rush. Jamey Bowen scored the first goal in Rush history on January 6th, 2006 against the San Jose Stealth.

 

The team also inked defender Samuel Marshall to a two-year contract.

 

Marshall was selected in the 5th round (72nd overall) of the 2023 NLL Entry Draft.

 

He is the first Franciscan NCAA lacrosse player drafted into the NLL in program history and first Franciscan athlete drafted in any sport since 1980, when Stanley Lamb was drafted by the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks.

 

Over his two seasons at Franciscan, he has scored 62 goals and added 29 assists in 26 games played. His 3.5 points per game is fourth best in program history.

 

Marshall also represented Canada at the IIJL World Juniors twice, taking home a silver and gold medal.
SASKATOON – The Saskatchewan Rush have locked up a second-round pick.

 

On Friday, GM Derek Keenan locked up 2023 2nd round pick (20th overall) Thomas Kiazyk to a two-year deal.

 

The goaltender out of Stittsville, Ontario has a sparkling resume for a 2004-born netminder.

 

In 2022, he won a Founders Cup with the Nepean Knights. In 2023, he hoisted the Minto Cup with the Burlington Blaze.

 

Standing at 6’3 and 180 pounds, the 19-year-old goalie has posted a .889 save percentage over the past two years of playoff lacrosse and picked up 41 total wins since the start of the 2022 regular season.

 

Kiazyk still has two years of junior eligibility remaining but will be looking to crack the Saskatchewan Rush roster when training camp starts in November.
