Blades Atop CHL Top 10 Rankings For Third Straight Week

The Saskatoon Blades are getting comfortable with their lofty spot in the weekly C-H-L Top 10 rankings.

For a third straight week, the Bridge City Bunch are atop the list. After three victories last week, the Blue and Gold are on an eight-game winning streak, have points in the standings in their last 11 outings and are 24-1-5 in their last 30 games. Saskatoon plays three games on the road this week – Friday in Lethbridge, Saturday in Medicine Hat and Monday in Brandon. Four other W-H-L teams are on the list, from sixth to ninth spots – Portland, Prince George, Everett and Moose Jaw in that order. Following are the news releases from the Blades and the C-H-L…..

Blades top CHL rankings for third straight week

 

Saskatoon, SK – The Saskatoon Blades are sit atop the CHL Top-10 Rankings for a third consecutive week.

 

The Blue and Gold are on an eight-game winning streak and have only suffered one regulation loss over their last 30 games. Since Nov. 24th, 2023, the Blades are 24-1-2-3 and have earned a point in 29 of their last 30 games. It was another successful week for the Bridge City Bunch, earning wins against the Lethbridge Hurricanes (3-1), Prince Albert Raiders (6-1), and the Swift Current Broncos (3-2). Saskatoon became the first WHL club to punch its ticket to the postseason after Saturday’s win at InnovationPlex against the Broncos.

 

Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Fraser Minten was a big contributor to the three victories, registering a pair of multi-point contests and five points (2G, 3A). The Vancouver, BC product has 27 points (13G, 14A) in 21 games since joining the Blades on Nov. 24th, 2023.

 

Fellow Leafs property Brandon Lisowsky nabbed a point in all three Saskatoon victories, including a goal in Saturday’s win against Swift Current. The second period tally gave Lisowsky 61 points (30G, 31A) in 53 games, his third straight season cracking the 30-goal plateau.

 

Nashville Predators prospect Tanner Molendyk had a goal and a pair of assists last week to increase his total to 44 points (7G, 37A) in 36 games. The 19-year-old blueliner leads all Blades defencemen in those departments.

 

The Blades continue to gear up for the playoffs with three games on the road this weekend.

CHL Top-10 Rankings: Saskatoon, London & Baie-Comeau maintain their place in the Top 3, while Halifax re-enters the Top 10

TORONTO, ON — The Canadian Hockey League (CHL) announced today the Week 19 edition of its CHL Top-10 Rankings for the 2023-24 season.

Having clinched their spot in the 2024 WHL Playoffs, thanks in part to a current 11-game point streak (10-0-0-1), the Saskatoon Blades of the Western Hockey League (WHL) hold the top spot in the CHL rankings for a third week in a row. The Blades still have just one regulation loss since November 24 having won 24 of their last 30 games (24-1-2-3). Right behind them in second place is the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), who extended their CHL-best point streak to 23 games (21-0-0-2) to maintain their lead in the OHL’s overall standings. Meanwhile, rounding out the top three is the Baie-Comeau Drakkar of the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), who continue to lead the CHL in wins (42) and clinched their place in the 2024 QMJHL Playoffs last week.

Since nine of ten clubs ranked in last week’s CHL Top-10 Rankings won all of their matchups over the last seven days, there weren’t too many changes to this week’s rankings. The most notable change came from the Halifax Mooseheads of the QMJHL, who are back in the Top 10 for the first time since December. Having won a pair of games last week and collected points in nine of their last 10 contests (7-1-2-0), Halifax also booked its place in the 2024 QMJHL Playoffs alongside Baie-Comeau and the No. 5-ranked Drummondville Voltigeurs.

The next rankings will be released the week of February 19, following the 20th week of regular season action in all three member leagues of the CHL.
