Some Good and Some Not so Good on Injury Report as Riders Return to Practice

By Les Lazaruk Sep 24, 2024 | 4:27 PM

It was the usual mish-mash of positive and not so good news on the injury front as the Saskatchewan Roughriders began preparing to host Ottawa on Saturday at Mosaic Stadium.

The not-so-good, according to Tuesday’s C-F-L injury report, was that Canadian receiver Ajou Ajou didn’t take part in practice after injuring his knee in Saturday’s big Green and White victory in Calgary. In addition, a troublesome knee kept American defensive back C-J Reavis sidelined Tuesday while defensive linemen Micah Johnson and Caleb Sanders were both limited participants with back issues. On the positive side, defensive back Rolan Milligan Junior was on the field after being away last week to be his wife and new daughter, defensive lineman Anthony Lanier was more involved in the workout and O-Lineman Jacob Brammer took first team reps at right guard in place of Nick Jones. The Riders did announce the signing of Canadian receiver Colton Hunchak, who played with Calgary the last four seasons. In a corresponding move, offensive lineman Tairiq Stewart was released.
Meanwhile, Jeremiah Masoli has been taking first-team reps at practice this week and could be in line to get the start when Ottawa visits the Riders on Saturday. The veteran quarterback was called into action in this past weekend’s loss against Montreal after Dru Brown left the game with an injury. Following is the Riders’ injury report from Tuesday and the news release on Hunchak’s signing…..

ROUGHRIDERS SIGN CANADIAN WIDE RECEIVER COLTON HUNCHAK

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed Canadian Wide Receiver Colton Hunchak.

Hunchak (5’11-212) joins the Roughriders having spent four seasons (2019-23) with the Calgary Stampeders. The Calgary, AB, native was selected by the Stamps in the eighth round, 74th overall, of the 2019 CFL Draft. Over 35 games played he earned 65 receptions for 606 yards.

Collegiately, Hunchak played four seasons at York University (2015-2018), and had a significant impact on the Lions’ offence. He recorded 1,990 total yards and 18 touchdowns over 27 games. In his senior season, Hunchak set York’s single season record for receptions (63) and broke the program’s career receptions record (167). Throughout his collegiate career, he was named an OUA second-team All-Star twice (2016, 2018) and received OUA All-Rookie Team honours as a freshman.

In a corresponding move, the club has released offensive lineman Tairiq Stewart.
