Tyler Parr (pictured) opened and closed the scoring and the Saskatoon Blades responded with a much better effort in a 4-2 victory Saturday in Moose Jaw.
The Bridge City Bunch had allowed the opposition to score first in eight of their previous nine games, going 3-4-2 in that time, including Friday’s sub-par effort in a 6-2 home loss to Brandon. Parr banged in his own rebound just 2:09 into the contest as the Blue and Gold started strong, out-shooting the Warriors 7-3 in the first seven minutes of the game. That goal held up until the third period when the Blades out-scored Moose Jaw 3-2, getting power play goals from Rowan Calvert and David Lewandowski while Ethan Semeniuk put home a pair of rebounds at the lip of the crease for the Warriors. Parr out-muscled Moose Jaw defenceman Aiden Ziprick for a loose puck in the neutral zone to score into an empty with 17 seconds left to seal the result. The win gave Saskatoon three wins in four head-to-head meetings this season with the Warriors, who eliminated the Bridge City Bunch in seven games in the Eastern Conference final back in the spring, on the way to winning the W-H-L title. The Blue and Gold improved to 21-12-4 while Moose Jaw dropped to 10-22-5. Saturday’s game was the first of four straight on the road for the Blades with the next three to be played in Alberta – Tuesday in Red Deer, Wednesday at Edmonton and Friday in Calgary.
