Tigers Multitude of Offensive Weapons Too Much For Blades to Overcome

On the occasion of two teams playing each other for the first time after hooking up on a blockbuster trade, it was the ex-Blades who got the better of the ex-Tigers as Medicine Hat out-scored Saskatoon 5-3 Tuesday night before 3,754 fans at SaskTel Centre.

The two players the Bengals acquired from the Bridge City Bunch on January 6 combined to break a 3-3 tie as Misha Volotovskii deflected Tanner Molendyk’s point shot past former Tigers’ goaltender Ethan McCallum with 6:54 remaining in the third period. The goal came just 24 seconds after Rowan Calvert’s power play goal tied the game, even though Medicine Hat was badly out-shooting the Blue and Gold. McCallum was the reason the Blades were in the game as he stopped 38 of 43 shots while Saskatoon only managed 18 shots on Bengals’ netminder Harrison Meneghin. Another former Tiger, Hayden Harsanyi, scored for the Bridge City Bunch while Hunter Laing also tallied for the 27-17-6 Blue and Gold, who had a four-game winning streak ended, and Tyler Parr chipped in two assists. For 34-16-4 Medicine Hat, they put the brakes on a three-game winless skid as their multitude of offensive weapons was paced by Gavin McKenna, who increased his consecutive game points streak to 29 games with a goal and two assists. Prior to the game, the Blades announced that their annual Top Defenceman of the season award would be named after Molendyk. Saskatoon’s next action is a Friday home game against the Calgary Hitmen.
