The Saskatoon Blades are going into the final week of the W-H-L regular-season in a tie for first place in the East Division after blanking the visiting Regina Pats 4-0 Sunday.
Evan Gardner (pictured) stopped 23 shots for his second straight shutout. The 18-year-old sophomore from Fort St. John, B-C, has three clean sheets for the season and seven for his career, tied for third in Bridge City Bunch franchise history with Braden Holtby. A second round pick of the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2024 N-H-L Draft, Gardner has played 126:19 without allowing a goal. Offensively, David Lewandowski’s first period goal was the winner with Cooper Williams, Jordan Martin and Kohen Lodge also scoring for the 36-22-7 Blue and Gold. Williams added an assist while Hunter Laing chipped in a pair of helpers. For 17-year-old Williams, he has assists and points in five of the last six Blades’ games – the Calgary product posting four goals and seven helpers for 11 points in that time. For the season, Williams has 20 goals, the fourth Saskatoon player to reach that plateau, and 55 points, which is tied for second-most among W-H-L rookies. The Bridge City Bunch out-shot the 15-42-8 Pats 39-23, giving the Blue and Gold five wins in six head-to-head meetings with Regina during the season. The Blades’ 79 points leaves them tied with Brandon for top spot in the East Division, setting the stage for a head-to-head match-up on Wednesday in the Western Manitoba city.
