The Saskatoon Police Service says they have made an arrest in connection to a series of armed robberies on Monday. Around 1:45 a.m. police were called to an armed robbery in the 1500 block of 22nd Street West where they learned of a man trying to leave with items not paid for, who was confronted, at which time he threatened staff with a large machete and fled. Officers obtained video evidence from that robbery.
Around 9:00 p.m. on Monday officers responded when they got a call from a business in the 1700 block of Preston Avenue North when a Loss Prevention Officer was threatened with bear spray while confronting a shop lifter. The suspect fled but again police were able to obtain video evidence.
Just 50 minutes later, police were called to another business in the same area – Preston Crossing – of a man matching the suspect’s description again trying to steal. Officers still investigating the prior incident got there in minutes and arrested a suspect they believe is responsible for all three robberies.
A 37-year-old man has been charged with robbery, possession of a weapon to commit an offence, unauthorized carry of a concealed weapon, mischief under $5000, theft under $5000, and uttering threats.
