This week the Saskatchewan Ministry of Health issued a public overdose alert after a tested drug sample in Saskatoon was found to contain several dangerous substances.
According to the alert, a sample tested at Prairie Harm Reduction contained para-fluorofentanyl, xylazine, and benzodiazepines, all of which pose a serious risk of overdose.
The drug is being sold as Fentanyl and contains 5 to 10 per cent Para Fluorfentanyl, Xylazine, Benzodiazepines, 70 to75 per cent Erythritol, and 15 to 20 per cent Caffeine.
The ministry said the drug is typically smoked and carries a high risk of overdose and serious harm. While naloxone can reverse the effects of opioids like para-fluorofentanyl, it has no effect on xylazine or benzodiazepines.
The alert will remain in effect until July 9.
